Myglassart.org was started by glass artist Hans Godo Frabel, through his foundation, the Frabel Art Foundation, Inc., in an effort to encourage cooperation and education between glass artists around the world. Through this website, glass artists and glass art enthusiasts can discuss issues on forums, blog about their work and life and create relationships with other glass artists around the world.
In 1965, when Hans Godo Frabel started his flameworking glass art career, he showed his work to many different galleries, but all galleries told him the same thing, your work is beautiful, but it is glass, not art. Determined to change this perception, Frabel saved up his money and opened his own gallery in 1968, which became an instant success.
In 1971, the first museum, the Birmingham Museum of Art, acquired one of his works for their permanent collection. Soon other museums followed, such as the Smithsonian Institution and the Valencia Museum of Art and now, Frabel’s art can be found in museums all over the world.
Hans Godo Frabel founded the Frabel Art Foundation to further the world’s education and promotion of flameworking glass art in specific as well as glass art in general. The Frabel Art Foundation is hosting the Frabel Awards, which are the first independent awards for glass artists, where fellow glass artists vote who is the winner of this competition, making these awards the biggest compliment a glass artist could achieve.
