Frabel at McKee Botanical Garden
On November 15th, McKee Botanical Garden opened the largest Frabel Exhibition thus far. With over 200 sculptures of Hans Godo Frabel, most of them outside, this is the largest outdoor Flameworking Glass Art Exhibition ever. Frabel’s “Large Cube with Imploded Spheres” and “Clown Fountain” have been exhibited before, but there are several new installations that have been introduced at McKee Botanical Garden. One of these new installations is “Aces and Deuces, Jokers Wild”. It consists of 13 jokers, balancing on playing cards. This sculpture is a symbolic expression of life’s journeys through ups and downs, highs and lows. It shows the risks and challenges we face and the gambles we have to make in our lives. Further, Frabel created 15 large clowns on large spheres, entitled “Balancing”. Frabel tries to tell his story to enjoy life like these clowns, as if it is one big carnival. These clowns, balancing on large colorful floating spheres, compliment the beauty of the ponds at the McKee Botanical Garden and reflect delightfully into the water.
Another first in this show are the incredible Water Lily and Lotus sculptures Frabel created. Inspired by the beauty of these flowers, Frabel set out to create some of the largest Water Lilies and Lotusses he and his team ever put together.
The show, “Frabel - Reflections of Glass on Water” will be at the McKee Botanical Garden until April 30, 2009. For more information on McKee Botanical Garden or the Frabel Exhibition, please visit their website: www.mckeegarden.org
